Remembrance Day in Canada and Jour du Souvenir au Canada, illustrated by i Cenzial. This is my first book as a children’s author. As a primary teacher in elementary school, I lamented that there were so few books about Remembrance Day that younger children could understand. When I retired, I decided to take a Remembrance Day Ceremony activity I created for my students to present and turn it into a children’s book. I was hoping to create a book that elementary teachers and parents of young children could use to help explain the different symbols and activities that have become a tradition in Canada.
Remembrance Day In Canada
Remembrance Day in Canada is about how and why we celebrate Remembrance Day. I wrote it because, as a primary teacher, there were few resources and stories that I could use for my class about Remembrance Day in words they could understand. I chose an illustrator that I felt would be best able to provide pictures to portray the words I wrote on the pages. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do.
The book describes the things we do on Remembrance Day. It also details the Parliament buildings in Ottawa where Canadians who gave their lives for Canada are exhibited year round. I felt that it was important to include the Books of Remembrance, The Peace Tower and The Memorial Chapel, as they are an important part of the way we remember those who died for Canada on every day of the year, not just November 11.
Jour du Souvenir au Canada
Remembrance Day in Canada has been translated into French to become Jour du Souvenir au Canada. I felt it was necessary to have my book accessible to people who speak either of the two official languages in Canada.
Remembrance Day in Canada is available at Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Chapters.Indigo.ca and BarnesAndNoble.com.
